Ray of Hope: Jennifer Medina

Shining Light International simply wouldn’t exist with out the support of our friends and followers. Everything that we do is made possible by your generous donations and commitment to the work we are doing in Northern Pakistan.

That’s why we’ve decided to celebrate YOU.  Each month we will be featuring a Ray of Hope Club member who has helped keep our programs running in Pakistan!

Let us introduce you to: Jennifer Medina

Jennifer first met Shining Light International at our screening of the Girl Rising Film in Colorado Springs in 2014, and jumped on board immediately.  Her passion for the world, making an impact, and bringing Light to dark places was evident from the first time we encountered her.  Since then, she has joined us at our Pakistan Prayer nights, volunteered at the Bringing Hope Run, and attended the Allume Conference with us to help sell scarves and advocate for what is happening in Pakistan.  We are so grateful for her support, time, and genuine passion for Pakistan.

How

onth and give you a chance to hear from each other on what it is that drives you to be a part of Shining Light International.

did you first hear about SLI?

One of the Shining Light staff members had us over for dinner and shared about what SLI does in Pakistan and we were interested right away!  Then we attended the Girl Rising screening in Colorado Springs and got to hear from the directors, Mike and Robin about their programs on the ground.

What do you love about SLI?

I love that Shining Light is focused on things that really matter in the end. They focus on working with those whom few are willing to reach in a creative way.  These people would not otherwise receive an education, and they are not afraid to work in a region where darkness often prevails.

What upcoming projects are you most excited about?

Personally, I’m most excited to see how medical education and care programs could open up. There is potential of partnering with other organizations that want to help bring hygiene and mother infant care courses to remote villages. I would love to be able to take a trip & use my nursing and education background to love on Pakistani people. But the woman’s vocational training is incredible, too. It’s beautiful to hear that Sunnis & Shiites & Christian meet together for education and opportunities for their future.

Why should others become involved with Shining Light?

Shining Light finds creative ways to bring light to a dark country. People who couldn’t read or never  had the opportunity to go to school are given these opportunities, women who never were able to learn a skill or go to school now as adults are learning together skills like marketing, sewing, fashion design, and many other skills. Simply put, this is an organization that shines brightly among oppressed people, sowing freedom and light in this region of the world.
