Ray of Hope: Erin Rose Medina
Shining Light International simply wouldn’t exist with out the support of our friends and followers. Everything that we do is made possible by your generous donations and commitment to the work we are doing in Northern Pakistan.
That’s why we’ve decided to celebrate YOU. Each month we will feature a Fan of the Month and give you a chance to hear from each other on what it is that drives you to be a part of Shining Light International.
Let us introduce you to: Erin Rose Medina
How did you first hear about SLI?
I first visited the Northern Areas of Pakistan in the spring of 2005. I worked with the directors, Mike and Robin, at the coaching center (this was before it was a full time school), volunteered in a health clinic for women and children in Baltistan, and did some trekking and traveling in the Nangma and Hunza Valleys and to the base of Nanga Parbat. I went during a really formative time in my life and actually made the decision to go to medical school after we returned based on the time I spent in the health clinic.
What do you love about SLI?
I love how SLI works with people on the ground to meet real needs and transform lives. I love that they are passionate about educating girls. I also have a great deal of respect and admiration for the people who make up and work for SLI.
What upcoming projects are you most excited about?
I’m excited about the ongoing work with the Gujjars.
Why should others become involved with Shining Light?
Because this is an organization that works directly with people on the ground, in the community. You can be confident that your donations are going where they are supposed to and are making real change in people’s lives.
