Ray of Hope: Mary Yeager
Shining Light International simply wouldn’t exist with out the support of our friends and followers. Everything that we do is made possible by your generous donations and commitment to the work we are doing in Northern Pakistan.
That’s why we’ve decided to celebrate YOU. Each month we will feature a Fan of the Month and give you a chance to hear from each other on what it is that drives you to be a part of Shining Light International.
Let us introduce you to: Mary Yeager
How did you first hear about SLI?
My husband I were the pastors at Grace Community Church in Montrose, Colorado where the Directors, Mike and Robin Gordon attended before moving to Pakistan. As they went to start the organization and serve the people of Pakistan we were behind them 100% and praying for their success.
What do you love about SLI?
I love that Shining Light never gives up. Even after 9/11 and many Americans had to leave their beloved Pakistan, it was only for a short time. As soon as they could, the Gordon’s returned and continued their work. I was so fascinated by what I heard about the work being done in Gilgit, and I made my way over there in February 2010 to see what all the fuss was about! It was all true. Pakistanis were being taught English, women were learning skills to improve themselves and their families, and the Gujjar tribe had schools started in their area. Men, women, boys, and girls were educated and learning to read.
What upcoming projects are you most excited about?
I would have to put my vote in for the Gujjar Adult Literacy Program. I remember hearing about the Gujjars before our friends even left to start the work in Gilgit. To see the Gujjars now learning how to read and being educated where there was no such thing before, is a complete miracle.
Why should others become involved with Shining Light?
I like to see a return on my investment, whether spiritually, or in the financial world. Shining Light has so many good things happening that I can’t keep up with all the reports of success. Any money given to Shining Light is money well spent.
