Retail Sales Outlet
Since the beginning days of the Women’s Vocational Training Center, Shining Light has dreamed of opening a local Retail Sales Outlet to employ more women and promote the products produced by the graduates of the program. Over 600 women have gained new skills and been empowered financially, and now they have their very own place to sell products!
After a year and a half of searching for the perfect location, securing funding, and preparing employees, the new shop has opened it’s doors in the heart of Gilgit’s main market (bazaar). This exciting moment allows Shining Light to employ local women- empowering them to further their career by bringing sustainability to themselves, their families, and the Gilgit community. Establishing the outlet in Gilgit allows women to be involved in the entire production, operation, sales and management process in a conservative, male-centered society where women are largely restricted from public areas. In three years, the retail store will be able to provide jobs for up to 30 women depending on the supply and demand of the items being ordered.
Educated And/Or Trained Women invest 90% of their income back into their families
According to the UN, research shows that when women are educated through either primary school or through vocational training that 90% of their earned income is invested back into their families. The establishment of the first LifeStitch Retail Sales Outlet will ensure that more Pakistani women gain access to job opportunities that will change their lives and the lives of their families for many generations to come. We are so excited to watch these women thrive as they accomplish their goals and reach their fullest potential despite being in a society with so many obstacles.
