At Shining Light…They are like family!

Shaloom is 15 years old and is currently attending Shining Light Academy in Gilgit, Pakistan.  He is being supported through our Shining Light Scholarship Program.  We hope his story inspires you, reminds you of the power of education in a child’s life, and encourages you that your donations make a real difference in real people’s lives.

“My name is Shaloom, and I am 15 years old.  I am in ninth grade at Shining Light Academy.  Before attending Shining Light Academy I was at another local school, and there was such a difference.  Honestly, they didn’t treat us very well, they would just leave us to do things alone…but at SLA they are like family! We even pray together before we eat lunch, and have a routine to our daily life.  I have such wonderful memories as a young child playing games with the staff and founders of Shining Light.  I will never forget those memories.

If I hadn’t received a scholarship I don’t think I would be able to go to school at all.  School fees are very high in Pakistan.  Since I was in fifth grade, I have wanted to be a software engineer.  I am so interested in mobile phones, but I need to study math, physics, and computer sciences more and more so I plan to go to university to do this. I am so thankful for anyone who supports Shining Light.“
