That’s why we’ve decided to celebrate YOU. Each month we will be featuring a Fan of the Month and give you a chance to hear from each other on what it is that drives you to be a part of Shining Light International.
Let us introduce you to: Joe and Sarah Hargadine
How did you first hear about SLI?
We first heard about Shining Light when the Directors came and spoke at a young adult’s meeting we attended in Boulder, Colorado. We were immediately drawn to the humility, passion, and culturally sensitive vision to support local Pakistanis, and their heart to engage and support the community that they were living in. We still had to finish up our degrees, but we told them that very night that some day, we were going to go to Pakistan to work with them – and three years later, we did!
What do you love about SLI?
The thing we love most about the people involved with Shining Light is that they don’t just develop projects, they develop people—and as the people develop, sustainable programs are born. They always seek to come alongside the dreams and passions of those around them, and so the people are the structure. This is a powerful model that bears much fruit.
What upcoming projects are you most excited about?
We love the current vision to continue to reach the fringes of the northern territories of Pakistan, and we know that they are impacting some of the most needy and isolated peoples in the world.
Why should others become involved with Shining Light?
We constantly recommend that people get involved with SLI because their support will truly ‘hit the pavement’. Again, the funds don’t simply support the organization, they support real people. When you give to SLI, your money directly impacts classrooms with small children, buildings that empower women, and makes the dreams in the hearts of men and women in Pakistan a reality. We love Shining Light International!
